MOVING OUT
Residents must check out either 48 hours after your last exam or by 12pm (noon) on May 1 (whichever comes first).
The New College Dining Commons will close as of 8pm on April 30th, 2025
Remove your belongings
The deadline for the removal of personal belongings from your bedroom and common spaces is 3pm on your confirmed move out date.
All furniture, appliances, and equipment that were provided in the room at the start of your occupancy must remain in the room after moving out, or subsequent charges will apply.
All personal items must be removed from the room during your move out. Please pack your belongings in stackable boxes or containers, minimizing the number of loose items.
Please be aware that once you have moved out, Knox Residence will discard all articles remaining in your room or in common areas. We strongly suggest that you perform your own thorough room inspection to look for forgotten articles.
If you have not checked out of your room and removed your belongings by 12pm on May 1 your ACORN account will be charged to reflect your extended stay at Knox Residence.
Dispose of all garbage
Empty your room of all waste and garbage, including food items. Dispose of items in the correct bins in the garbage rooms.
Secure your room
Please close all windows, turn off the fan and light, and close your room door. By securing your door you are ensuring that your bedroom is exactly as you left it for your post-move out room inspection.
Return your keys
Please return your keys to the Service Desk (or in the key return box in the mail area only when the desk is closed) to complete your check out. Keys must be returned by 3pm on your move-out day.
Your check out will not be complete until your key is returned. Those who move out without returning their key will incur a $50 charge to their ACORN account
Prebook an elevator time slot
The elevator is available for move outs between
3 – 9pm on weekdays and 12pm – 9pm on weekends.
Residents are asked to prebook an elevator time slot via StarRez. Click on Manage My Housing and Move-out Elevator Booking to book your slot.
Borrow a moving cart
To borrow a cart, you must provide the Don or another member of the Knox Residence Life team with your student ID until it is returned. Please note that health cards and passports will not be accepted as ID.
Please remember to return your cart once you are finished.
Please note: the Don on Duty will not be able to help residents move their belongings.
UP UNTIL MAY 1ST AT 12PM (NOON)
If you need to extend your stay for a valid reason (flight, exam, final paper, etc.), to a date that is no later than May 1st at 12pm (noon), please fill in our Extension Request Form and provide any supporting documentation that you have (e.g. flight confirmation, course timetable, etc.).
Students who have already made arrangements to stay over the summer do not need to extend their date. This will be updated in the system if/when your summer reservation is confirmed. Please note that if you will be staying at Knox Residence over the summer, you will most likely need to move rooms. We will contact you by email in the month of April to provide moving instructions.

Important information
Start packing at least a week or two in advance so you don’t have to do it all on the last day. To ensure a safe and efficient move, please pack your belongings in stackable boxes or containers, minimizing the number of loose items.
Make your travel and storage arrangements for your personal belongings ahead of time. If you will be living at Knox Residence for the 2025 – 2026 academic year, but not during Summer 2025, you will need to make alternative arrangements for storing your belongings.
Dons will not be assisting with lifting or moving any items, so please be proactive in reaching out to family members, friends, and/or professional movers to help you move if you need help to move your belongings.
After moving your belongings and vacating your room, please return your key to the key collection mailbox (in the mail area, near the St. George entrance) upon checkout to avoid any additional charges.
Please be sure to update your mailing address on ACORN and with other important contacts. As of May 1, 2025 mail and packages received for non-residents will be returned to sender.
You may wish to schedule a pre-move-out inspection. The pre-move-out inspection is entirely voluntary. Its purpose is to identify any obvious damages as well as to advise you about how to avoid extra cleaning charges.
Inspections can be scheduled via email (maintenance.knoxresidence@utoronto.ca). It is suggested that the inspection be scheduled a minimum of one business day prior to move-out date. Please note: inspections can only take place on a business day (Monday – Friday) so please plan accordingly.
Do not remove any wall adhesives (including Command Strips) from your walls, our maintenance team will remove them.
